Work In Progress Residency
During the month of April, I will be the Artist in Residence at the Textile Arts Center’s Work In Progress Residency. Looking forward to reconnecting with my NY community.
Visit WIP in the Textile Arts Center Manhattan studio during open hours. Artist hours every Saturday, from 2-6PM.
After a loooong cycle of work, limbo, changes, clarity and darkness, hurricanes, surprises, lots of fabric, lots pillows, lots of meditation, movement, and specially a lot of transformation…
I am beyond happy to be able to invite you to see and experience my installation SOL, which is part of the exhibition ‘Parallel Encounters’ (Lexus Grants for Artists 2015, 2016).With works also by Naimar Ramirez Battle, Axel Ruíz, Jaime Crespo, Bobby M Cruz, y Brian Rivera.
SOL is an installation/meditation space, woven using my #handspunrecycledfabricyarn and circular/cyclical body movements inspired the lacemaking technique of Tejido de Soles. Videos and artbook accompany the central piece.
The exhibition will be open to the public from February 17th to May 13th, 2018 at the Bertita and Guillermo L. Martínez Gallery on the 4th floor of the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico.

#handspunrecycledfabricyarn material-gathering/making is on full steam – both in Barcelona (Spain), and Puerto Rico.
I’m documenting the process and interactions/encounters with my #parejasdedeshecho here:
#juntosesmejor. Would love to hear from you!
I have been awarded an Art Grant in Puerto Rico, the Beca Lexus. Bestowed by Lexus in collaboration with Fundación Comunitaria de PR, it funds the production of a piece/project to be presented at the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico next year.
It is truly an honor and quite moving to be supported in my home country.
I will be creating an installation, a meditation space, woven using my handspun recycled fiber yarn and inspired the lacemaking technique of Soles. Stay tuned!
“A piece that dives deep into the shifting tides of tourism and water borders. Approaching the fraught, fluid relationship between place and visitors, between leisure and labor, Pastrana explores tropical identities and the troubling parallels between colonialism and choreography. A dance-state with a definite volume but no fixed shape, liquid uses performance to examine the politics of water and bodies.”
Explore the ‘liquid’ state between leisure & labor, places & visitors, and colonialism & choreography at DoublePlus this week.Don’t miss new works by nibia pastrana santiago and DYNASTY HANDBAG in an evening curated by Jennifer Monson. Tickets → bit.ly/1KltlM4
